What is an Invalid or Inconclusive Urine Test Result?
One of the common questions receive is what “invalid” or “inconclusive” urine test result? An invalid or inconclusive result is not the same as a positive result, the cause of invalid/inconclusive might result from many different factors which can include the following:
- Errors in mislabeling
- Specimen confusion
- Misplaced sample
- Misidentification of the subject
- Breaks in the chain of custody
- Contamination of equipment
- Failure to clean glassware
- Operator error
- Paperwork issue
Since many urine tests rely upon technician interpretation, human error causes most of these issues. Unfortunately, when there is an invalid or inconclusive, they don’t admit fault, they’ll just mark the paperwork as such and ask for you to comeback and test again.
